With the increase in number of HPV cases, people are interested in more natural treatments before jumping to surgical intervention.
If you are not familiar with the sexually transmitted viral infection known as HPV or Human Papilloma Virus, here is some information about this infection.
There are many different genomic strains of this virus. HPV 16, 18, 32, 34 … and the list goes on. HPV 16 & 18 are considered the most serious infection as they can lead to cancer of the cervix. All forms of HPV infection are treatable with naturopathic methods including the more benign forms of the infection which typically just cause genital warts and the more severe cases of infection that can cause carcinoma in situ.
If you have not had a PAP smear recently, please do. If the PAP smear comes back negative or inconclusive, you can simply retest in a year and practice safe sex (barrier methods) or abstinence until then.
If you are younger than 26, most doctors are not concerned even with a positive result as you may be able to clear this infection naturally. However, if you smoke cigarettes, engage in sexual intercourse with multiple partners or have other risk factors, you may want to seek treatment and a closer follow up.
If you have had a positive PAP smear (positive for cellular changes to the surface of the cervix) please make sure you follow up with viral serology. Find out which form of the virus is causing the cellular changes (16, 18 etc). This way, your practitioner has some idea of the severity and necessary timeline and checkups.
Depending on the severity of your condition, dysplasia, CIN I, II or III, you can be treated with naturopathic methods. It is possible however, that your treatment will depend on more conventional methods including conization, a LEEP procedure or other methods. This will be specific to the degree on infection.
Expect treatment to take up to 8 weeks, on average, possibly longer.
Treatment consists of rounds of vaginally inserted suppositories, a vitamin and supplement regiment, immune stimulating botanicals, as well as smoking cessation, if necessary, and other modalities that will be specific to your case.
It is rare that you will need serious intervention.
We all have the innate ability to heal this infection. Especially when you get natural medicine onboard.
